Looking for one of the best day trips from Darwin? We recently joined the Ethical Adventures Waterfalls | Paradise – 1 Day Litchfield Regional Tour, and it's easy to see why this small-group experience is a favourite for visitors wanting to explore the natural beauty of Litchfield National Park.
From refreshing swims and spectacular waterfalls to fascinating wildlife and thoughtful hospitality, this full-day tour offers the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation and local knowledge.
A Relaxed Start to the Day
The day began with a convenient 7:00 am pick-up from Darwin CBD before travelling towards Litchfield National Park in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. With only 10 guests on the tour, the small-group experience felt relaxed and personal from the very beginning.
Our guide, Karl, was welcoming, knowledgeable and passionate about the Top End. Throughout the day, he shared fascinating stories about the region's history, wildlife and landscapes while making sure everyone felt included and comfortable.
Swim at Berry Springs Nature Park
Our first stop was the beautiful Berry Springs Nature Park, where we enjoyed a refreshing morning swim in the crystal-clear pools before settling in for morning tea.
Freshly baked homemade muffins, tea and coffee were served, making for a delicious start to the day's adventure.
Discover Litchfield's Natural Wonders
After a short comfort stop, we arrived at the impressive Magnetic Termite Mounds. Learning how these remarkable structures are carefully aligned to regulate temperature was a fascinating insight into one of the Top End's unique natural wonders.
Throughout the day, Ethical Adventures went above and beyond with thoughtful extras, including fresh fruit, snacks, icy poles and refreshing cold towels. These small touches made a big difference in the tropical heat.
Visit Litchfield's Iconic Waterfalls
One of the highlights of the tour was visiting some of Litchfield National Park's most spectacular waterfalls.
At Florence Falls Lookout, we admired sweeping views of the twin waterfalls surrounded by lush bushland before continuing to Tolmer Falls, where the dramatic waterfall plunges into a deep gorge that provides an important habitat for rare bat species.
Each stop offered incredible photo opportunities while our guide shared interesting facts about the park's geology, wildlife and cultural significance.
Lunch Among Nature
Lunch was served overlooking the wetlands and was both fresh and delicious. It was the perfect opportunity to relax, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and recharge before the afternoon's adventures.
Cool Off at Wangi Falls
No visit to Litchfield is complete without a stop at Wangi Falls.
Surrounded by monsoon rainforest, the large swimming hole is one of the park's most popular places to cool off. Whether you choose to swim beneath the falls or simply take in the scenery, it's a memorable way to experience the beauty of the Top End.
