The Darwin Wine Party

A party like no other, hosted by comedian and certified wine-wanker Merrick Watts.

Forget everything you know about wine festivals. Grapes of Mirth is bringing a huge afternoon of wine, comedy and chaos to Mindil Beach Casino Resort as part of Darwin Festival.

Joining Merrick on the main stage is comedy legend Mel Buttle for stories, laughs, and a glass (or bottle) of wine. Together they'll host an afternoon of ridiculous wine games, challenges and prizes, including Goon & Spoon races, blind tastings, giant prize wheels, and plenty of opportunities to embarrass yourself in front of complete strangers.

The real star is the wine, with more than 60 wines from Australia and beyond. Explore dedicated bars inspired by the traditional homes of each varietal: France, Italy, the Iberian Peninsula, and Germany & Austria. Each zone will be hosted by a wine expert, including sommelier (and arguably the funniest member of the Watts household), Georgie Watts.

On arrival, every guest receives a personalised tasting card based on their wine profile, making it easy to discover new favourites or stick with the styles you already love.

The afternoon also features a live set from Darwin funk and soul favourites The Governors, before DJ Pedro Moshman takes over to soundtrack the sunset.
