The Beat Festival is the Northern Territory Department of Education's premier annual performing arts showcase, proudly coordinated by NT Music School. Since 1979, it has grown into one of the Territory's most anticipated cultural events, celebrating the extraordinary talent, creativity and dedication of students and teachers from public schools across the NT.
Each September, the Beat Festival brings hundreds of young performers together for a spectacular combined‑schools production at AANT Centre. Across three vibrant performances, audiences experience an unforgettable celebration of music, dance and live entertainment featuring a 250‑voice choir, a 30‑piece orchestra, contemporary rock bands, solo artists, dance ensembles and a diverse range of music groups.
For students, the festival offers a rare opportunity to perform in a professional theatre environment while collaborating with peers from urban, regional and remote communities.
Beyond the stage, the Beat Festival stands as a celebration of arts education and the strong partnerships that make it possible. It recognises the dedication of teachers, families and school communities who support and nurture young performers throughout the year, helping them grow artistically and personally.
For more than four decades, the Beat Festival has proudly showcased the strength, diversity and vibrancy of arts education in the Northern Territory — a testament to the creativity, resilience and potential of young Territorians.
