Care for Nature

Water: Use sun-safe clothing, eco-friendly repellents and report any leaks to Power & Water.

Waste: Bring reusable bottles, cups, cutlery & bags. Take rubbish with you & recycle.

Wildlife & Flora: Stay on tracks, do not feed or touch animals, do not collect plants/rocks/shells, do not disturb Aboriginal rock art or sacred sites.

Crocwise always: Swim only in areas marked safe. Respect the wild and their home.

Weather & Seasons
Darwin has two main seasons, the Dry from May to October and the Wet from November to April, along with six unique Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) seasonal cycles↗. Conditions can change quickly especially during the Wet Season so checking the latest weather reports↗ helps you travel safely and responsibly.
Respect Culture
Darwin is on Larrakia Country. The Larrakia people are the Traditional Owners of the Darwin region and have cared for this land for tens of thousands of years. Please:
- Show respect for Aboriginal cultural heritage, including cultural protocols and authenticity.
- Explore the Larrakia Seasonal Calendar & Saltwater Stories podcasts.
- Book Aboriginal cultural experiences via the Top End Visitor Information Centre.
- Always ask before photographing people & never disturb sacred sites.
- If you are visiting Aboriginal land, you must obtain a travel permit unless you are on an organised tour → More info here.

Sustainable Tourism Accredited Business
A growing number of our Tourism Top End members have achieved Sustainable Tourism Accreditation through the Quality Tourism Framework↗, managed nationally by the Australian Tourism Industry Council (ATIC). This program reflects best practice standards across all aspects of sustainable tourism operations including environmental management, social and cultural responsibility and sustainable marketing and promotion.
