GARRMALANG FESTIVAL | Christine Anu & ZIPPORAH
-
Saturday 13 June
- 7:00PM-9:15PM
Christine Anu and ZIPPORAH come together for a special Garrmalang Festival concert celebrating culture, connection and the passing of stories through generations.
The evening begins with a solo set from ZIPPORAH, one of Australia’s most exciting new voices. Hot off the release of her debut mixtape NAUNGU URUI, the proud Samu and Suy woman from Saibai Island in the Torres Strait is forging her own path across music, dance, theatre and screen. Blending Neo-Soul, R&B, jazz and soul influences, ZIPPORAH’s music is emotionally rich, self-assured and deeply connected to culture and identity.
The second half of the evening belongs to Christine Anu, one of Australia’s most beloved performers and voices. A multi-ARIA Award nominee and APRA AMCOS Award winner, Christine’s extraordinary career has spanned music, theatre, film, television and radio for more than three decades. From her iconic rendition of My Island Home to acclaimed stage and screen performances, Christine continues to inspire audiences through her artistry, advocacy and enduring message of unity and hope.
The concert culminates in a rare shared performance, with mother and daughter joining together on stage for a moving finale that celebrates family, legacy and the strength of First Nations storytelling through music.
A powerful Garrmalang Festival event featuring two generations of Torres Strait Islander artists, united through song.
