Same beach. Same spirit. Just done differently. Darwin's historic 1918 beach races are back with a modern Territory twist!
More than 100 years ago, Darwin locals gathered on Mindil Beach for horse races, picnics and a moonlight concert, raising funds for soldiers returning home from the war.
In 2027 that spirit returns with Go Slow Beach Races, Darwin's most unique race day.
Forget everything you know about racing. With no whips, no prize money and no pressure – this isn't about speed or high stakes. It's about atmosphere, personality and a great day out with mates.
Expect a full day of live entertainment with six delightfully unpredictable beach races featuring retired racehorses and ponies with big personalities, Fashions on the Sand and food trucks.
Ticket entry includes an iconic sunset DJ set by The Potbelleez, known for their hit song "Don't Hold Back".
Choose General Admission for beach-level access (BYO shade, and picnic setup), or Licensed GA for shaded seating and priority bar access.
Go VIP for a beachfront marquee, premium food and beverage packages and horse meet-and-greet.
In keeping with the spirit of 1918, fundraising proceeds will go to the RSL Darwin, supporting NT veterans and their families.
Tickets on sale now! Kids under 16 free with a ticketed adult. VIP packages moving fast.
